How we work

Every number has a source and a date

Wedding costs vary by place and season, and prices change. So we show where each number comes from, when we checked it, and how we got from it to the result.

Sources and dates

  • Every price and figure on the site comes with its source and the date we read it.
  • When we update a page, the page shows the date of the update.

Calculators

  • Every assumption a calculator uses, such as overhang, stems per arrangement or price per yard, is visible and you can change it.
  • Calculators show the steps, not just the answer, so you can check the math yourself.
  • A result is an estimate for planning, not a quote. Measure your own tables and confirm prices with vendors.
  • Before a calculator goes live, we check it against cases worked out by hand.

Made it or researched it

When we've made something ourselves, such as sewing a bow tie from our pattern, we say so and show our own photos. When a guide is based on research and math, the guide says that. We don't describe a project as tested or built unless it was.

Photos and illustrations

We use our own photos, diagrams, or licensed illustrations labelled as illustrations. We don't use photos from the blog that used to be on this domain, or photos of other people's weddings.

Money

Right now the site has no ads and no affiliate links. If that changes, we'll publish a disclosure page first and label affected links where they appear.

Corrections

If something is wrong or out of date, please tell us. We fix errors and note the date of the correction on the page.
